Whoever set up the roads and towns in southwestern Ontario was a smart one. It’s never too easy to get from place to place around here, and Thamesford is no exception.
The easiest way to get to Thamesford from London is to head east along Dundas Street. That’s literally it – Dundas will take you right into downtown Thamesford.
What’s that? You want to make it more complicated?
I suppose you could take the 401 east, turn off at Highway 119 in Ingersoll, then follow 119 to Thamesford. But there’s really no reason to.
So What’s Up With Thamesford?
Part of Zorra township, Thamesford is best known for its Calithumpian celebration.
What is Calithumpian? It’s an Old English word that refers to either a “spontaneous clown parade” (whatever that means) or a party held after a public hanging. But don’t worry, they don’t hang people in Thamesford anymore (I don’t think!)
Held once a year on the May long weekend, Thamesford’s Calithumpian committee chooses a theme for the celebration and the town rolls with it.
During Calithumpian, you can enjoy hockey, baseball, and volleyball tournaments, a local craft vendor show, a petting zoo, a public BBQ, movie nights, live music, and lots more.
